Finally, a parent who believes in tough love. Amy Winehouse’s father in law feels if you boycott her albums she might be forced to seek the help she obviously needs to kick her drug addiction.
Giles Fielder-Civil, believes Amy and her husband Blake are on crack and heroine and are in “abject denial” about the extent of their problem.”I think they believe they are recreational users of drugs and they are in control,” Fielder-Civil told British Broadcasting Corp. radio Tuesday. “Clearly they are addicts.”
The not so proud father-in-law feels if Amy’s not selling any records, she’ll get the message from her fans that her “addiction and behavior are not acceptable”. Plus it would mean less money for drugs.
Amy Winehouse’s dad, on the other hand, doesn’t believe it’ll do much good.
“It’s all clutching at straws,” Mitch Winehouse told the BBC. “There’s only one way out of this, and anybody with any drug experience will tell you … that the only way out of this is not sectioning them, not locking them up. At some point they are going to reach rock bottom … and at that point they will say, `Listen, I don’t want to do this anymore.’”
Personally, I think Blake’s dad has a point. It’s time for people to stop rewarding bad behavior.
