Bear Gryllis is a fraud?

I admit it. I watch “Man VS Wild” on the Discovery Channel. It’s very entertaining, like the time Bear Gryllis drank the liquid from rhinoceros dung to keep hydrated or peed on his shirt and wrapped it around his head to keep him cool. My husband and I joked that his crew must be staying far, far away from him during such stinky moments. Who knew he was probably having himself a shower at the local motel, and not sleeping in a snake cave like he led us all to believe? Oh, Bear. I’m so disappointed. Now I’m not even sure if that was really raw zebra meat your were noshing on.
According to the BBC, Bear is a big fat fraud. They’re claiming he stayed in motels on occasion and soaked in hot tubs. One time, when Bear was to have built himself a raft, the crew actually built it, tested it out, and then took it apart so Bear could put it together. The BBC also tells of a certain episode when Bear was to have rounded up horses but instead rented them out for the day.
From the BBC:
Channel 4 said in a statement that Born Survivor was “not an observational documentary series, but a ‘how-to’ guide to basic survival techniques in extreme environments”.
“The programme explicitly does not claim that presenter Bear Grylls’ experience is one of unaided solo survival.
“For example, he often directly addresses the production team, including the cameraman, making it clear he is receiving an element of back-up.”
The broadcaster said Grylls carried out his own stunts and did place himself in perilous situations, “though he does so within clearly-observed health and safety guidelines required on productions of this kind”.
“However, we take any allegations of misleading our audiences seriously and will be looking into this further with Diverse over the next few days.”
I feel so used.
