Having worked with Gene Simmons in the past, I figured he was a shoo-in to win Celebrity Apprentice. The man’s a marketing genius. As I was watching last night, I realized he hadn’t a chance in hell. He’s not a team player. It’s all about him. Even when the client tells him it’s not about him he says it’s about him. That’s why watching him get the cobra hand on Celebrity Apprentice was rather enjoyable. It’s always nice to see an arrogant, unbendable schmuck get his comeuppance.
Last night’s task was to be about a new, economical printing ink from Kodak. Because Gene felt himself above taking a meeting with the the Kodak marketing people, he missed that minor detail. Instead he sent Nelly who talked and talked and talked and never heard what the client was saying. Gene came up with a concept having nothing to do with the ink, and insisted the client had no idea what he was talking about.
Even after it was clear he lost the task, and Donald spelled out who Gene should take into the boardroom with him, he still didn’t listen. As a result, Gene was rightfully fired. Gene, next time pull your head out of your ass long enough to listen to what others are telling you. It’s truly not all about you.
