I’m doing my best not to think of the time my husband gave me a paper shredder for Christmas. Hilary Duff’s boyfriend, hockey player Mike Comrie, gave her a Mercedes Benz SUV worth over a hundred grand. Nice deal, Hil. This guy totally upped the ante for girlfriend gifts.
Comrie, who plays for the Islanders, told People he wasn’t sure what to get her at first but then the idea hit him when she started talking about cars. “I was planning on getting a big car and I drive a big car anyway, and I was just like, ‘You know maybe I like the G-Wagen,’ and then I was like, ‘No, maybe I like the [Porsche] Cayenne,’ ” says Duff, whose manager steered her away from the Porsche, reminding her that she was a “terrible driver” and “didn’t need that kind of power.”
“I’ve driven it tons,” Duff said of her birthday present. “When I called him I was like, ‘You’re crazy! It’s perfect!’ “
