Indian Arrest Warrant for Richard Gere Suspended
Gee, and to think some people were calling for Richard Gere’s death over this “incident”… who are they kidding?
On Tuesday, India’s Supreme Court voted to temporarily suspend the warrant for Gere’s arrest, who allegedly broke public obscenity laws by kissing Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.
Until the proper course of action has been decided, the courts has indefinitely postponed all legal proceedings against the pair.
Last month, Gere was attending an AIDS Awareness event in New Delhi, where he and Shetty allegedly “offended the public” by engaging in an act that is against Indian law.
While this is an attention-grabbing case, it appears that the majority of Indians could care less.
Gere himself said he was very apologetic if he had offended anyone, but that the case was brought about because of a “hard-line” political party.
It remains to be seen what the outcome of this case will be, but let’s hope people try to remain sensible about this.
