If you tuned in to watch the Miss Universe Pageant live from Mexico City, you were not alone. 600 million viewers watched the pageant in hopes their country would take home the crown.
20-year-old Riyo Mori, a dancer from Japan, took home the crown last night to much applause. This is only the second time Japan has won the Miss Universe pageant.
Mori could hardly contain herself when she was pronounced the winner, but she made a swift recovery in time to take her first walk as Miss Universe 2007.
The last time Japan took home the crown was all the way back in 1959.
Fourth runner-up Rachel Smith from the USA slipped and fell during the evening gown portion yet still made it to the top 5. During her interview question, she was booed heavily by the crowd.
Now, Mori plans to do her best to be the face of the universe as she travels across the globe to benefit charities. One day, she hopes to open a dance school in Tokyo.
