More on the Death of Christopher Bowman
As reported earlier, Christopher Bowman, former figure skating champion and regular on the television series "Little House on the Prairie", was found dead yesterday in his motel room in the San Fernando Valley.
The immediate speculation is that "Bowman the Showman" died of a drug overdose, but we won’t know that until after an autopsy is performed this weekend. According to the Associated Press, he was found by a friend yesterday morning. "He just passed away in his sleep," his mother told the Detroit Free Press. "His friend told me that he was fine. He just went to bed and didn’t wake up." His friend also thinks Bowman might have been drinking the night before.
Though Bowman was a crowd favorite and champion figure skating during the late 80’s and early 90’s, he had a dark side. Drinking, drugs and sex began to prevail and figure skating took a back seat. Christopher Bowman was arrested a couple of dozen times, underwent treatment several times and lived on the street for a while, subsisting on food found in dumpsters. In 1993 while on tour with Ice Capades, he was beaten up in his hotel room.
Christopher Bowman’s most recent brush with the law was in 2004 when he was arrested for felonious assault after aiming a gun at his girlfriend. Those charges were dropped. He was given 18 months probation for carrying a gun while drunk in 2005.
We’ll bring you more news as we learn of it. What makes Christopher Bowman’s death so shocking to many is that figure skaters always appear to be so clean cut and wholesome. Well, except for maybe Tonya Harding.
