Tom Hanks Wants to Put an End to the Writer’s Strike

Tom Hanks is worried about the Academy Awards and is urging and end to the writer’s strike before there’s another major awards show cancellation. He’s pushing for studios to go back to the negotiating table immediately.

"The show must go on, that is one of the tenets of everything," Hanks told Reuters regarding the Academy Awards. "I am a member of the board of governors of the Academy, and we definitely want to put on a great show and honor the films that have come out in the course of the year."

Hanks also reminded those involved in the writer’s strike there are a lot more people to consider. "There are caterers and carpenters … and electricians and gaffers," the 51-year-old said. "There are a lot of people out there associated with the industry, for whom the sooner this work stoppage is over the better. "

This is going to be interesting. The scaled-back People’s Choice Awards tanked in the ratings, the Golden Globes have been relegated to the evening news cast and the Oscars are in jeopardy. The city of Los Angeles is losing hundreds of millions of dollars as a result of the strike. With so many paychecks at stake, I don’t understand why negotiations aren’t going on around the clock.
