So I’m looking back at Britney Spears’ VMA performance, and reading all the reports and I’m wondering if she was set up to fail. Bear with me while I offer my not so expert analysis and opinion:
Just before the show, Britney learned Sarah Silverman was about to make some very rude remarks about her kids, calling them “the most adorable mistakes you’ll every see”. That might make me a little pissed too. Add to that how her magical performance with Criss Angel was canceled, and that she was hoping to do “more mature dancing” and reports of a broken boot, it might be a little understandable that Britney was off her game. Despite these little glitches, I do believe Britney was set up to fail.
MTV had to have known she’d lipsync, MTV, also knowing what a train wreck she is, still booked her as opening act. They knew she’d create a buzz and knew it would be all over the papers today. In short: Bad+Britney=Lots of Press for MTV=Lots of advertising dollars for the reruns and for next years show. That’s not excusing her bad performance, but I don’t really think she stood a chance against the press and her peers.
She has guts, that Britney. She got up there, and though she gave a lackluster performance, she saw it through. How many other divas would have canceled?

I think MTV and Britney both got a little something out of it. Britney got to be on a TV show that is not “access hollywood” and MTV got to see if the train wreck would happen.
If Britney wants to be a performer, it is her job to get over shit when she gets on stage. No sympathy here.

A real “diva” doesn’t LIP SYNC. Britney has done it AGAIN AND AGAIN.
Although Silverman was harsh, let’s face it.. MTV and it’s audience needed some perspective and she brought it.
MTV needs to concentrate on MUSIC instead of teaching elementary kids that rump shaking and dancing around in your underwear equals some kind of talent.

That heel is def. in trouble. I watched the performance again, and you can see her favoring it and wobbling when she puts pressure on that foot. She’s for sure a wreck, but that was some added shitty luck. I don’t even doubt it.
Sorry not buying it. Any real diva would have worked their asses off to get ready for the show. They would not have partied and gotten wasted every night well into the morning. Even the morning of the show. The reason Criss Angel cancelled was because Brit wouldn’t rehearse. As for Silverman, maybe Brit knew what she was going to say but maybe not (as Silverman says). Either way be a professional and get over it or quit trying to do a performance comeback. If you want to just put out a DVD fine, don’t perform. I used to feel sorry for her but now I think she totally disrespected her fans and they should be done with her.

She is a big girl, she didn’t have to do it. Unfortunately bad judgements calls are her expertise. I have no excuses for her. She doesn’t even have to have talent, the resording studio fixes her voice. The cheorographers make up the dance moves, she buys her songs. All she has to do is be young, baeutiful and rich. She can’t do that. Screw her…
Yes I know I can’t spell, but you get the point.
Yes I do believe she was set up…and it’s digusting. The girl is obviously not well and all the gossip rags and now MTV are benefiting from it. It’s really bad. She’s being bullied. She needs help, not public bashing.
How many other divas would have canceled?
Try this on for size: The ones with artistic integrity.
And please. Divas are Denyce Graves, Maria Callas, Renee Fleming. The title is too bit for your pop-star slutlettes.
